The Yard Hotel, in the heart of Shanghai, is a four-story boutique hotel with 88 guest rooms, a working lounge, a gym, and a cafe overlooking a serene Japanese-style garden. Surrounded by residences, schools, and exhibition spaces, it was envisioned as a “Yard” within the city—a tranquil retreat where people can meet, relax, and recharge in a natural setting.

Our concept, “Urban Nature,” shaped the design. The facade’s vertical elements echo nearby trees, blending the building into its surroundings. The lobby’s wooden louvre screens balance privacy and openness, adding warmth and movement.

Guest rooms reflect two visions of nature: one with dark tones and warm wood, evoking a tent’s comfort; the other, a modern timber hut with textured paint and dried grass, creating a serene, natural ambiance.
